Reflections
Native people believe that everything on earth is a reflection of that which is in the sky. Think about it. When we look in the mirror, an image is bounced back to us. When we look in the eyes of another, a reflection is also bounced back to us. When we like what we see, we lean towards this reflection more. Similarly, when we do not like what we see, we are challenged to either do something about it or to look away. For example, if we should find ourselves witnessing a crime, lets say a robbery; the honest person within us may shine through and we act accordingly either by calling the police or personally taking an action to stop the crime. The meta physic of this action is due to the reflection of wrong doing being cast upon us, highlighting instead, the honest actions we choose to partake in. If another robber were witnessing the crime, he most likely would see his own reflection and feel validated in this way by not interfering.
Reflections are everything and we truly are all mere reflections of one another.
If we look upon each as such, we can learn and grow in so many ways. By "seeing" a quality in another that appeals to us, it encourages us to be more like that person. It might be that they are more learned, perhaps they are physically fit and exercise more or maybe they possess a certain work ethic. Whatever it might be, it is their reflection that casts out to us a certain image of growth and allows us an opportunity to grow.
There are also people whom we don't like to be around. These people also possess certain qualities yet they are the very qualities that we have either grown away from or are in the process of moving out of. They too shine an image back to us that is just as validating as we no longer see any reflection of them within ourselves.
It is good to look deeply into the eyes of another! Think for a moment about the people in your life that you spend the most time with. It may be family members, elders, friends, coworkers... Then ask yourself who is it that you enjoy being around the most. Why is that? What reflection do they cast back to you? Likewise, who is it that you do not enjoy being around at all. Why?
If we can be honest enough to not only look deep into ourselves but into the eyes of others, each person we encounter in life can serve to help propel us forward enabling us to grow in so many ways.
Know that we are all connected in this journey of life and in the end, ultimately, we may all have travelled parallel paths to one mutual and final place or destination. To stop along the way and appreciate and/or understand other's unique experiences and how they reflect upon us, allows us a well rounded view of the lessons of life that we all learn along the way.
May all your reflections be divine ones~!
