A psychopomp is a guide who escorts newly deceased souls to the after life. From the Greek word "psychopompos", this word literally translates to mean "guide of souls". This guiding figure can be found throughout mythology, religious and sacred texts and real life stories from people all over the world.
Some of the more well known psychopomps include the Greek god Hermes, the jackal-headed Egyptian god Anubis, the Archangel Michael as well as a variety of other angels, animals, birds and helpful beings who assist in the transition to the other side. Yet there are also many earthen spirits who assist in this process on a daily basis.
Most of us don't think about death, yet it's purpose in life is just as important as birth. When we do take time to contemplate this process, many of us would hope to die in our sleep, peacefully and surrounded by loved ones. In reality, this is often not the case.
Many souls get stuck between Heaven and Earth for various reasons. Some because they died suddenly or traumatically; some do not fully cross over because they were not at peace with themselves when they transitioned or they were held in fear for lack of faith or religious or spiritual instruction. These souls truly are in need of the light and a psychopomp is a person who's divine intention and ability can assist in the transition of these individuals so they can continue along their journey to the other side.
It's not uncommon to hear about or read about family members who come to greet our loved ones as they prepare to cross over. Perhaps you've even experienced this personally, at the bedside of a loved one who speaks aloud the names of those who have already passed on as if they are seeing them in the room. Yet there are other times when a little more assistance is required and this has long been one of the jobs of the shaman who is able to 'walk between the worlds' offering help to those in need.
For some, they do not find this spiritual peace and harmony until they reach death's door - for others, finding it earlier in life certainly helps to pave the way for an easier, peaceful transition when the time comes.
The "New Age" shift of recent is a reflection of society in general working towards healing global wounds of the past and collectively coming together as one spiritual community who's every reflection leans towards peace and harmony of the mind, body and spirit. However, along with this great knowledge comes great responsibility; so please be mindful to research anyone that you are about to engage in spiritual work with to be assured of their authenticity and integrity.
This kind of work has always come natural to me. Over the years, I have helped several souls (animals too) cross over to the other side. Some consciously, some unconsciously, and many in dream time. Truthfully, it wasn't until recently that I learned there was a word (psychopomp) associated with this process. An important part of my role as an energy practitioner is to help people cross over; I find this role a much needed and very necessary one in our ever changing world today.
The sooner we learn that we are all spiritual beings having physical experiences and not just physical beings having spiritual experiences, the easier it will be to embrace our spiritual nature. Our bodies are a reflection of the stars, made from the same star dust found out in the universe. As we wake more fully to the nature of our own divine DNA, perhaps we will find peace and harmony in our spiritual residence, and become one with all that is. Truly, this is the foundation of a well balanced and honorable life. After all, we are all ONE GREAT SPIRIT, GREAT MYSTERY.
The Lakota people say "We are all one. All related. Mitakuye Oyasin"
The Cherokee say "Gus dii dada dv ni"
Many Spiritual practices use the Sanskrit word "Namaste" meaning "the divine in me honors the divine in you"
Please feel free to contact me for more information or if you seek assistance for yourself or loved one in this transition process.
